Day 4 on the W Trail: Torres del Paine's Secret Saucers.
Check out this mind-blower from Torres del Paine, Chile! Those aren't spaceships, folks, but incredible lenticular clouds hanging out over Grey Lake. I spotted them from Los Patos Lagoon Lookout, perched a cool 689 feet (210 meters) up.
Lenticular clouds, named for their resemblance to lentils (fancy, right?), form when wind slams into mountains like these bad boys. The air gets all rippled up, like a wobbly sheet, and if it's humid enough, the moisture condenses into these smooth, saucer-shaped clouds.
These aren't your average clouds, though. Glider pilots love them because they can catch a ride on the updrafts these clouds create, soaring for miles and reaching crazy heights! Imagine gliding alongside these beauties – talk about an epic adventure!
