W Trail Day 1: Windy Pass in Torres del Paine: A Breathtaking Challenge.
Brace yourself! Windy Pass awaits at the top of the second switchback on the trail. I tackled it twice, both on my ascent and descent.
Windy Pass, also known as Paso del Viento in Spanish, is a mountain pass located at an elevation of 1,428 meters (4,685 ft) above sea level in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile. It is found on the edge of the Southern Patagonian Ice Cap and is known for its strong winds, which is how it got its name.
The pass is a popular spot for hikers on the W Trek and the O Circuit, two of the most famous hiking trails in Patagonia. The hike to Windy Pass is challenging, but the views from the top are absolutely stunning. Hikers can see the Paine Towers, the Grey Glacier, and the Sarmiento Lake.
